We know margins are tight and funding programs to can be hard to find. Here is a list of some of the funding opportunities in Saskatchewan for farmers and ranchers that may be of interest
Prairie Watersheds Climate Program (PWCP)
The Prairie Watersheds Climate Program (PWCP) works with producers to increase the implementation of select Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) on farms in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to address issues related to climate change in agriculture.
The BMPs eligible under the PWCP focus on three categories:
1. Improving nitrogen management. For example, agronomic services to develop farm-specific nutrient management plans, equipment modifications for fertilizer application in fields, and soil sampling and analysis.
2. Increasing adoption of cover cropping. For example, payment-per-acre to cover adoption or related costs such as seeds and equipment. Cover crops are plants, like clover and alfalfa, that are planted to cover the soil rather than for the purpose of being harvested.
3. Expanding the adoption of rotational grazing. for example, agronomic services to develop grazing management plans, interior cross fencing, water system infrastructure, legume and forage seeds. Rotational grazing is the practice of containing and moving livestock through pasture to allow forage plants to recover, deepen their root systems and improve soil health.

Farm Credit Canada
Sustainability Incentive Credit
Farm Credit Canada (FCC) launched the Sustainability Incentive Program in June 2022. This program is open to eligible customers who meet our partners’ program requirements in sustainability. For Saskatchewan beef producers, that means operations that have been certified through the Verified Beef Production Plus Program.
Incentive payments are calculated as a portion of your eligible lending with FCC. You could receive one payment per year at a maximum of $2,000. You can reapply annually throughout the life of the program.

Cargill Beef Sustainability Incentives
Cargill has incentive program for producers that are committed to sustainability through certification through the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and its certification body, Verified Beef Production Plus. In addition to this ongoing Qualifying Cattle Credit Payment, Cargill is also funding a pilot Recognition Credit to be issued in 2023 for qualifying cattle processed in 2022. This incremental payment will ensure all CRSB Certified operations who maintained their CRSB Certified status through 2022 and into 2023 will receive a minimum $400 CAD in total annual credit payments relative to Cargill’s 2022 implementation of the CRSB Certified Sustainable Beef Framework. The credit will only apply to those producers who have not already received at least $400 CAD in return for the Qualifying Cattle Credits. The credit will be paid to CRSB Certified operations regardless of whether their qualifying cattle were ultimately sold into Cargill.
